"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature -€” have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."

Rumination's on Hymns: "When Morning Gilds the Skies"

1
When morning gilds the skies my heart awaking cries,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

2
Whene'er the sweet church bell peals over hill and dell,
May Jesus Christ praised!
O hark to what it sings, as joyously it rings,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

3
The night becomes as day when from the heart we say:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear when this sweet chant they hear:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

4
Ye nations of mankind, in this your concord find,
May Jesus Christ praised!
Let all the earth around ring joyous with the sound,
May Jesus Christ praised!

5
In heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this,
May Jesus Christ praised!
Let earth, and sea and sky from depth to height reply,
May Jesus Christ praised!

6
Be this, while life is mine, my canticle divine:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this th'eternal song through all the ages long,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

--Joseph Barnby, 1868

I just love the emphasis on Christ! These lyrics should cause us to take a moment to reflect upon the preeminence of Christ, and to often praise Him wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Take time to praise Christ!

Kind of makes "Shine Jesus Shine" banal.

Is this the cwatson that I think it is? How are you doing?

I agree that the sophistication of hymns such as this one does make me appreciate good theology. :)

I am thinking about posting once a week on a hymn that we sang in church, or a hymn that I have recently been meditation on. What do ya think...? Good idea ... bad idea?

This is the same. You are missing out on a real seminary. Come here and be taught how to think.

Good idea. Hymns are good. Very good. (Now the very fact that we are discussing good and bad in relationship to music brings foward some assumptions, but this is your blog, not mine --I closed mine awhile ago because of a lack of readership).

Sorry to hear you had to close shop on your blog. :( I just recently joined this community, so I hope that my fate is not the same as your's!

If you want to read a good discussion on music, see Pittsley's blog (http://pittsspot.blogspot.com). REALLY good stuff. (you may have to look in his archive. his discussion has moved on to other issues.) I am not yet brave enough to venture into that arena. :)

Btw, good crack on DBTS. You should be happy that your faculty there saw fit to attend here. :) You should come here for a Summer class. It would be fun to study together again!

It would be fun, but the chances of me getting a summer vacation with my job are nil. Unless they offer a winter course I won't be able to come. I work 2 jobs...and take 13 creds each semester.
